Care Ministries - Small Groups

In a growing church, it is essential that parishioners establish close relation-ships with a circle of friends. Small groups offer that personal touch in the midst of the larger gatherings for weekly services. In a parish which seeks to reach out to the unchurched, public worship is sometimes not the best setting in which to introduce someone to Christ and His Church. Small groups offer another setting, since each group has an 'empty chair' ready to receive newcomers. As we seek to become faithful followers of Christ, education programs are not enough to deal with the day-to-day needs of the growing disciple. Our small groups offer the practical, relational setting in which growth can begin and be sustained.

What is a Small Group?
A Small Group is a gathering of people who meet for a time of fellowship, study and caring. They meet on a regular basis, usually every week.

Who leads the Group?
Each Small Group has a lay leader who meets monthly with the Rector, a Small Group Coach and other Small Group leaders for training and encouragement. The Small Group leader serves the group as a facilitator and guide, not the group's teacher.

How do Groups meet?
Most groups meet in private homes, although some meet in the church building. Some have a special focus, others are open to all. Most groups meet weekly, some bi-weekly.

How might I benefit from being in a Small Group?
Through study you will gain a deeper knowledge of the Christian faith. Through fellowship you will gain a deeper relationship with others in the church. Through caring you will be given an opportunity to reach out to others in the group.

How do I join a Small Group?
You can find out more by contacting the Church Office or by calling the rector at (508) 393-3146. Every six weeks, each small group has an 'Open House' time when new participants are welcomed. You may then visit one or more groups during the Open House to see if you would like to join. If you find the group appealing, you would then be asked to dedicate six weeks of time. At the end of that time, you may stay with the group for another session or choose to make a change.

Why join a Small Group?
A Small Group is like an extended family, in which one can be connected, reach out, and grow in the knowledge and love of our Lord, together with a few others.
